LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim July 2015, as Juvenile Arthritis Month in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize official
months that are set aside to increase awareness of serious issues that
affect the lives of residents of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to memori-
alize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim July 2015, as Juvenile
Arthritis Month in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Juvenile Arthritis affects over 300,000 children in the
United States; and
WHEREAS, The most common symptom of Juvenile Arthritis is persistent
joint swelling, pain of stiffness which is usually worse in the morning
or after a nap; one of the earliest signs of this condition may be limp-
ing after getting up after sleeping; and
WHEREAS, Children afflicted with this condition suffer from an autoim-
mune form of arthritis, which is different from the aches and pains
Senior Citizens typically experience; and
WHEREAS, The immune system of a child diagnosed with Juvenile Arthri-
tis attacks their joints, causing swelling, stiffness and permanent
damage, an extremely serious condition; if it is left untreated it can
result in death; and
WHEREAS, Through public awareness, this Legislative Body seeks to
minimize the devastating effects of Juvenile Arthritis among the young
people of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to declare July 2015, as Juvenile
Arthritis Month in the State of New York, and to urge the residents of
this great Empire State to learn about the causes, symptoms, diagnoses
and treatments; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
