LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls
Varsity Cross Country Team upon the occasion of winning the 2015 Nike
Cross Nationals
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive athletics can be achieved
only through rigorous training, mental and physical discipline, and a
dedicated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our midst, who by achieving outstanding success
in athletic competitions, have inspired and brought great pride to their
school district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and by developing a
sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to hereby
recognize and congratulate the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross
Country Team upon the occasion of winning the 2015 Nike Cross Nationals;
and
WHEREAS, On December 5, 2015, the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity
Cross Country Team dominated the 12th Annual Nike Cross Nationals at
Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Oregon; this remarkable team
captured first place, with an overall final race time of 17:55, defeat-
ing 21 other seven-person high school teams, which had qualified for the
race via state competitions; and
WHEREAS, The Nike-sponsored course, with obstacles, rolling hills and
tree-lined fairways, delivered a classic interpretation of the Pacific
Northwest's storied running environments in front of an enthusiastic
crowd; and
WHEREAS, The Nike Cross Nationals win was the Fayetteville-Manlius
Girls Varsity Cross Country Team's ninth team title, further establish-
ing the program as a national powerhouse; and
WHEREAS, The Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross Country Team
advanced to the Nike Cross Nationals by defeating eight other teams at
the New York State Class A Cross Country Championship at Monroe-Woodbury
High School on November 14, 2015; and
WHEREAS, No team can succeed without talent throughout its entire
roster, as is the case for the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross
Country Team whose runners include: Kaitlyn Neal, Claire Walters, Palmer
Madsen, Samantha Levy, Sophia Ryan, Jenna Farrell, and Becca Walters;
and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent, and drive to win, displayed by the
Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross Country Team is in great part
due to the efforts of Head Coach Bill Aris and Assistant Coach Dave
Davis, who are both well-respected mentors for their ability to develop
potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding members of the
Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross Country Team proved to be an
outstanding combination of talent, skill and dedication during the
entire season; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Cross Country Team
upon winning the 2015 Nike Cross Nationals; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned members of the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls
Varsity Cross Country Team, Head Coach Bill Aris, and Assistant Coach
Dave Davis.
