LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Irving Ladimer, J.D., S.J.D. upon
the occasion of celebrating his 100th birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Born on February 16, 1916, Irving Ladimer earned his Doctor
of Law degree from George Washington University; as an Attorney, he
specialized in legislation for health and aging and helped draft the
disability provisions of the Social Security Act; currently, he is work-
ing on compensation for caregivers; and
WHEREAS, A bright and articulate man, Irving Ladimer also taught at
several universities including Boston University, New York University,
Baruch and Hunter College, and Columbia School of Pharmacy, as well as
Mt. Sinai School of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Irving Ladimer has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Irving Ladimer dedicated his life to serving the elderly; as
a federal employee at the Social Security Board, he helped organize the
first National Conference on Aging, and at the National Institutes of
Health he promoted the founding of the Institute on Aging; and
WHEREAS, Irving Ladimer also held the position of Information Director
for the Railroad Retirement Board and helped design the pay and pension
system for the Armed Forces; in New York City, he surveyed the Jewish
nursing homes for the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies and consulted
for the 92nd Street "Y"; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his Riverdale, New York, community, Irving Ladi-
mer was appointed to the Community Board and served as both founder and
chair of the Committee on Aging and Ethics; he served as President of
the Spuyten Duyvil Homeowners Association and was a Board member for a
FEGS group home; and
WHEREAS, Today, this remarkable man is a research consultant for the
Schervier Nursing Home and community consultant for the Montefiore Radi-
ation Committee; and
WHEREAS, Irving Ladimer takes great pride in his association with
Riverdale Senior Services, where he is an enthusiastic advocate for
needed resources and champion for safety; he also participates in its
intergenerational program and represents the Center at various agencies
and residences; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Irving Ladimer is an active trustee of his syna-
gogue, long-term President of the Men's Club and delegate to the Feder-
ation of Men's Clubs; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of the people of the State of New York that
those who enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown
a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in
their profession, certainly have earned recognition and applause; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Irving Ladimer, J.D., S.J.D. upon the occasion of celebrat-
ing his 100th birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Irving Ladimer, J.D., S.J.D.
