LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring George H. Canon upon the occasion of his
retirement after 25 years of distinguished service as Supervisor of the
Town of Newcomb, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have devoted
themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their community
and the needs of its residents; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
George H. Canon upon the occasion of his retirement after 25 years of
distinguished service as Supervisor of the Town of Newcomb, New York; he
officially retired on Thursday, December 31, 2015; and
WHEREAS, George H. Canon began his illustrious tenure as Town of
Newcomb Supervisor in 1990; he held this esteemed post for over 12
terms; and
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of the
members of his community, George H. Canon assumed the mantle of leader-
ship by also serving on numerous committees, boards and groups in
several capacities; and
WHEREAS, A two term Chairman of the Essex County Board of Supervisors,
George H. Canon served as President of both the Adirondack Association
of Towns and Villages, and the New York State Association of Towns; and
WHEREAS, George H. Canon's extraordinary dedication to civic engage-
ment set a positive indelible mark within the Town of Newcomb and
surrounding region by accomplishing numerous initiatives, some of which
include, spearheading the development of the High Peaks Golf Course,
opening Camp Santanoni for public access and contributing to its preser-
vation and implementation, and expanding and supporting snowmobile and
multi-use recreational trails which connect the surrounding communities;
and
WHEREAS, Bearing concern for the well-being of the residents of the
Town of Newcomb, George H. Canon was also involved in reconstructing the
water tower, leading the construction of the sewer plant and championing
the installation of cell phone service, as well as developing the Five
Towns Essex Chain Land Classification; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, George H. Canon served the Town of
Newcomb, New York, with intelligence and caring dedication, continuously
striving to effectively fulfill the duties of his position; and
WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with whom
he worked, George H. Canon will be remembered for his honesty, integri-
ty, keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of human prob-
lems in his official acts; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor George H. Canon upon the occasion of his retirement after 25 years
of distinguished service as Supervisor of the Town of Newcomb, New York,
and to wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to George H. Canon.
