LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Senior Investigator Derrick A. O'Meara
upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of dedicated
service to the New York State Police Department
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, The quality of life in these communities is largely reflec-
tive of the commitment and dedication demonstrated by members of the
agencies which serve to protect, preserve and maintain public order; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Senior Investigator Derrick A. O'Meara upon the occasion of his retire-
ment after many years of dedicated service to the New York State Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; Senior Investigator
Derrick A. O'Meara is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Derrick A. O'Meara rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the New York State
Police Department; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Rome, New York, Derrick A. O'Meara began his
career with the New York State Police on April 4, 1983; on December 22,
1983, he served with the State Police of Sylvan Beach, prior to joining
the State Police of Remsen; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure, Derrick A. O'Meara climbed
the ranks to become an Investigator on July 29, 1993, before being
appointed to Senior Investigator at State Police Lowville on August 30,
2001; and
WHEREAS, Derrick A. O'Meara was promoted to Administrative Senior
Investigator, stationed at State Police Oneida, on April 1, 2004, the
esteemed position from which he is retiring; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Senior Investigator, Derrick A. O'Meara
served with loyalty, honor and distinction; he oversaw 12 Senior Inves-
tigators, 62 Investigators and four Civilian Employees; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he assisted the Troop D Command Staff in the day
to day operations of its Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI); and
WHEREAS, Among countless awards and accolades, Senior Investigator
Derrick A. O'Meara was honored with the 2015 Supervisor of the Year
Award; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Senior Investigator Derrick A. O'Meara
was governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of
human problems, earning him the admiration, esteem and affection of his
fellow officers; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize and commend such outstanding
law enforcement officers as Senior Investigator Derrick A. O'Meara for
their valued contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Senior Investigator Derrick A. O'Meara upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of dedicated service to the New York State
Police Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Senior Investigator Derrick A. O'Meara.
