LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Danielle Jachlewski upon the occasion
of being named the first female Lieutenant in the Carman Fire Department
in the Town of Rotterdam, in Schenectady County

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Danielle Jachlewski
upon the occasion of being named the first female Lieutenant in the
Carman Fire Department in the Town of Rotterdam, in Schenectady County;
and
WHEREAS, As a young child, Danielle Jachlewski dreamt of becoming a
firefighter; she fondly remembers watching her grandfather, the late
Raymond Jachlewski, and his fellow firefighters from the Carman Fire
Department, Schenectady, New York, fight raging fires and help bring
countless people to safety; and
WHEREAS, In 2010, Danielle Jachlewski joined the all-volunteer depart-
ment in Rotterdam, New York; the lone female member, she earned the
respect of her fellow firefighters, and quickly rose through the ranks,
holding the title of Sergeant in 2014; and
WHEREAS, In November of 2015, Sergeant Danielle Jachlewski was elected
as not only the first female, but also, the youngest Lieutenant in the
station's storied history; and
WHEREAS, At the age of 22, Danielle Jachlewski officially began her
tenure as Lieutenant on January 1, 2016; in this leadership position,
she spends 40 to 50 hours a week at the station, ready to respond to
fires, accidents, storm damage, ambulance calls and other emergencies
within her community; and
WHEREAS, A third generation Firefighter, Lieutenant Danielle Jachlew-
ski is proud to serve alongside her father, and former Chief RJ Jachlew-
ski, as well as the 45 dedicated and hardworking members of the Carman
Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1933, the once predominately male Carman Fire
Department, has changed dynamically since Lieutenant Danielle Jachlewski
joined the department; now, the brotherhood is also a sisterhood; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection, but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Lieu-
tenant Danielle Jachlewski is such a firefighter; for over five years,
this volunteer has heroically performed, above and beyond the call of
duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire protection;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Danielle Jachlewski upon the occasion of being named the first
female Lieutenant in the Carman Fire Department in the Town of Rotter-
dam, in Schenectady County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lieutenant Danielle Jachlewski.
