LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Geneva Police Department upon the
occasion of its designation for special recognition by the Geneva Area
Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Geneva
Police Department upon the occasion of its designation for special
recognition by the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce, celebrated at its
annual awards dinner held on Thursday, January 28th, 2016, at Club 86 in
Geneva, New York; and
WHEREAS, In May of 1882, the Trustees of the Village of Geneva passed
a resolution formally establishing the Geneva Police Department;
Geneva's first Chief of Police, William H. Suydam, was appointed along
with three other police officers; and
WHEREAS, Today, under the leadership of Chief of Police, Jeff Trick-
ler, the Geneva Police Department serves a population of approximately
13,617 people exclusive of 2,000 college students attending Hobart and
William Smith Colleges; the Department is comprised of 37 sworn offi-
cers, along with five full time and six part time civilian positions;
and
WHEREAS, In 2015, the Geneva Police Department noticeably increased
its foot patrols; the Department is committed to communicating with
those they serve and strives to maintain the trust and confidence of its
citizens while working to improve the quality of life for the entire
community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Geneva Police Department upon the occasion of its desig-
nation for special recognition for its diligent service to the community
by the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chief of Police, Jeff Trickler, Geneva Police Department.
