LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Tom Mossey upon the occasion of his
induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of
Fame

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Tom
Mossey upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenectady City
School District Athletic Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at its 18th
Annual Hall of Fame and Reunion Dinner on Monday, September 21, 2015, at
Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady, New York; and
WHEREAS, Tom Mossey is a 1956 graduate of Nott Terrace High School
where he distinguished himself by his many notable achievements in
basketball; and
WHEREAS, Elevated to the varsity team as a sophomore, Tom Mossey set a
Nott Terrace single game scoring record with 38 points, and helped lead
his team to three consecutive Class A League, Sectional, and Intersec-
tional titles; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable athlete was named to the GAZETTE All-County
All-Star Team, and was selected by DELL MAGAZINE as one of the Top 22
high school basketball players in New York State; furthermore, he was
named Schenectady Co-Player of the Year during the 1955-1956 season; and
WHEREAS, After receiving scholarship offers from numerous colleges,
Tom Mossey chose to attend Syracuse University; while there, he was a
starter on the varsity basketball team for three years, averaging 14.8
points per game as a senior; he was ranked 13th on the Syracuse career
points list at the close of his college career; and
WHEREAS, Following graduation, Tom Mossey taught Physical Education in
the Schenectady City School District, and proudly served his country by
enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1962; he participated in
combat operations in Vietnam, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with
Combat "V" Device for Valor; and
WHEREAS, Tom Mossey retired from active duty in the Marine Corps after
20 years of distinguished service; he later served as a military
instructor in the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program for 23 years; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Tom Mossey; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Tom Mossey for his
extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill,
dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Tom Mossey upon the occasion of his induction
into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom Mossey, and the Schenectady City School District Athletic
Hall of Fame.
