LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 15th Anniversary of the Harlem
Children Society on July 2, 2015

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize those
illustrious educational organizations within this great State and Nation
whose focus and intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of
life in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 15th Anniversary of the Harlem Children Society to be cele-
brated with an Induction Ceremony at New York University's Kimmel Center
on Thursday, July 2, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Harlem Children Society will be inducting more than 300
under-resourced and under-served students from over 100 schools in New
York City, nationwide, and around-the-world; these young men and women
will perform research throughout the summer and at year-round after
school programs, with over one thousand mentors, all of whom are
seasoned scientists, engineers, and doctors; and
WHEREAS, Founded on June 5, 2000, the Harlem Children Society is a
private non-profit organization founded by Dr. Satyajit Bhattacharya,
who currently serves as its President and Chief Executive Officer; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Harlem Children Society has been
dedicated to promoting and evolving innovative hands-on scientific
research programs in bio-medicine, engineering, technology, and allied
fields; and
WHEREAS, Today, this highly sought-after educational program continues
to pair leading scientists, engineers and doctors in reputed insti-
tutions and universities with children and youth from families living in
under-served communities; and
WHEREAS, Committed to helping disadvantaged students excel in STEM
fields, the Harlem Children Society's programs seeks to increase entre-
preneurship, generate hope, and equip its community with the knowledge
and awareness to propel young people in their future careers; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Harlem Children Society is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its devoted staff and STEM volunteers,
whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impres-
sive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard
of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of this organization and the
community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those educa-
tional programs which enhance the well-being and vitality of their
community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the Harlem Children Society; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Satyajit Bhattacharya, President and Chief Executive
Officer, the Harlem Children Society.
