LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Command Sergeant Major Kenneth Church
upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 40 years of dedi-
cated service to the United States Army

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize those remarkable individuals who honorably and courageously
serve their country in order to protect the life and liberty of our
citizens, and whose military service, professional lives, and civic
endeavors serve to enhance the stature of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Command Sergeant Major Kenneth Church upon the occasion of his retire-
ment after more than 40 years of dedicated service to the United States
Army; and
WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Kenneth Church began his distinguished
military career in 1973, at Fort Dix, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Kenneth Church's numerous decorations
and awards include: the Legion of Merit Ribbon, Bronze Star, Meritorious
Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement
Medal (2 OLC), Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement
Medal (9 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve
Medal w/M Device, Humanitarian Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal,
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer
Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4), Army Service
Ribbon and the Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon; and
WHEREAS, New York State also honored Command Sergeant Major Kenneth
Church with many commendations: the NYS Military Commendation Medal
w/Silver Shield Device, Long & Faithful Service Award w/Gold Shield
Device, NYS Operation New Dawn Ribbon, NYS Defense of Liberty Medal
w/WTC Device, NYS Aid to Civil Authority Medal w/3 Silver Shield
Devices, NYS Exercise Support Ribbon w/1 Silver "E" Device, and the NYS
Humane Service Medal w/4 Silver Shield Devices; and
WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Kenneth Church served New York State
during the 1979 Prison Strike, Operation Tornado, Operation ICE, Y2K,
and Super Storm Sandy; and
WHEREAS, Before Command Sergeant Major Kenneth Church retired on March
31, 2014, he completed his final assignment as the Brigade Command
Sergeant Major for the 153rd Troop Command; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who dedicate their lives to military service
merit the commendation and applause of all citizens for their commitment
to the preservation of American freedom; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Command Sergeant Major Kenneth Church upon the occasion of his
retirement after more than 40 years of dedicated service to the United
States Army; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Command Sergeant Major Kenneth Church.
