LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joanne Macri, Esq. upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Paul J. Curran Award by Prisoners
Legal Services

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joanne Macri,
Esq. upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Paul J.
Curran Award by Prisoners Legal Services; this momentous occasion was
celebrated at its 5th Annual Pro Bono Event on Monday, October 5, 2015,
at the Capital Repertory Theater, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Paul J. Curran Award is given to a Prisoners' Legal
Services volunteer who embodies a commitment to defending the rights of
incarcerated New Yorkers by providing pro bono services; Joanne Macri
was chosen for this esteemed honor in recognition of her impressive
career working in indigent and legal services; and
WHEREAS, Joanne Macri has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, After graduating with honors from the University of Ottawa,
Joanne Macri went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School;
and
WHEREAS, Widely respected in the legal community, Joanne Macri is the
Director of Regional Initiatives for the New York State Office of Indi-
gent Legal Services, where she has been instrumental in the implementa-
tion of a network of statewide regional immigration; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Joanne Macri serves as an adjunct professor at
Sage College, and has been a professor at SUNY Buffalo Law School; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Joanne Macri
has been honored by the New York State Bar Association's Criminal
Justice Section and the Committee to Ensure Mandated Quality Represen-
tation, as well as the Upstate New York Chapter of the American Immi-
gration Lawyers Association; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joanne Macri has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Joanne Macri has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joanne Macri, Esq. upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Paul J. Curran Award by Prisoners Legal Services; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joanne Macri, Esq.
