LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Brook-
lyn Chinese-American Association's Sixth Avenue Senior Center on March
23, 2015

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those organizations which provide essential care and support-
ive services for elderly and disabled people, and serve to enhance the
quality of life for our loved ones; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in fall accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 10th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Chinese-American Associ-
ation's Sixth Avenue Senior Center, to be celebrated on Monday, March
23, 2015, at New Spring Garden Restaurant, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Chinese-American Association (BCA) operates four
senior centers across southern Brooklyn to accommodate the Asian senior
population; BCA's senior centers have developed into common meeting
places where seniors find companionship and engage in a variety of
activities; and
WHEREAS, Established in March of 2005, the Sixth Avenue Senior Center
has already enrolled more than 2,000 members and now serves well over
200 seniors on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Sixth Avenue Senior Center offers daily congregate
meals; social service referral and case management; medical and health
related workshops and screenings; monthly birthday parties; music, danc-
ing, arts and crafts classes; and field trips; as well as other educa-
tional and recreational activities; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Sixth Avenue Senior Center coordinates
community meetings, assists senior members in meeting their housing
needs, promotes voter registration and educates the community on the
importance of exercising their voting rights; and
WHEREAS, The aforementioned activities as well as other special func-
tions all aim to enhance the overall quality of life among the senior
population within the district; and
WHEREAS, The Sixth Avenue Senior Center truly enhances the overall
quality of life among the senior population and is an asset within the
community it so ably serves; and
WHEREAS, This significant milestone is an excellent opportunity to
recognize the special contributions of the Sixth Avenue Senior Center
and the dedicated individuals who strive to better the quality of life
for senior citizens in the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Chinese-American Asso-
ciation's Sixth Avenue Senior Center on March 23, 2015, fully confident
that it will continue to enjoy the sparkling successes it has experi-
enced thus far; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Sixth Avenue Senior Center, Brooklyn, New York.
