LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Coach Bill Aris upon the occasion of
being named a 2015 National Coach of the Year by the National High
School Coaches Association

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those nota-
ble educators and coaches within our midst, who serve the youth of this
great Empire State, who have distinguished themselves and their schools
through their exemplary achievements and constant commitment to quality
instruction; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
and honor Fayetteville-Manlius Girls' Cross Country Coach Bill Aris upon
the occasion of being named a 2015 National Coach of the Year by the
National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA); and
WHEREAS, Coach Bill Aris was noted by the NHSCA for having led the
Fayetteville-Manlius Girls' Cross Country program to the pinnacle of the
sport over the past decade; and
WHEREAS, A national leadership organization for high school coaches
and administrators and their programs, NHSCA has been recognizing coach-
es through an awards program for the past 16 years; and
WHEREAS, NHSCA presents awards annually to 20 coaches nationwide who
demonstrate a strong dedication to supporting and developing high school
student athletes, while placing a high value on teamwork skills and good
sportsmanship; one such individual is Coach Bill Aris of Fayetteville,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bill Aris is only the second coach from New York State
to be named a National High School Association Girls' Cross Country
Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bill Aris took over the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls'
Cross Country program in 2004; and
WHEREAS, Since then, Fayetteville-Manlius Girls' Cross Country teams
have won nine consecutive state titles and have been crowned national
champions during eight of the last nine seasons; and
WHEREAS, During the 2014-15 school year, Coach Bill Aris directed both
the boys' and girls' cross country teams to the Nike Cross National
Championship and made Nike event history by becoming the first school to
produce boys and girls national championships at the same meet; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his coaching tenure, Coach Bill Axis has
continuously demonstrated a positive attitude and a goal-oriented and
balanced approach to athletic instruction, on top of his genuine concern
for his students; these attributes have contributed to his enduring
success as an instructor and mentor in the Fayetteville-Manlius School
District, earning him the just respect of his community and the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bill Aris has also received many praises for his coach-
ing excellence, being called "The Lombardi of Team Running" by the WALL
STREET JOURNAL in December of 2014; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Fayetteville-Manlius Girls' Cross Country Coach Bill Aris upon the
occasion of being named a 2015 National Coach of the Year by the
National High School Coaches Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Coach Bill Aris.
