HONORING Michael Essig upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Person of the Year
Award by the National Police Defense Foundation on
May 3, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who devote their life's work and
purpose to public service, contributing to the care and welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Michael Essig upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Person of the Year Award by the National Police Defense Foundation, to
be celebrated at its Annual Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at
Russo's on the Bay, Howard Beach, New York; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1995, the National Police Defense Foundation
(NPDF) provides critical medical and legal support services to the law
enforcement community and its membership which now exceeds more than
205,000 members and supporters nationwide and in 12 foreign countries;
and

WHEREAS, Michael Essig has been an active member of law enforcement
community for more than 27 years; and

WHEREAS, Currently serving as President of the New York State Order
of Police (NYSFOP), Michael Essig began his involvement with this vital
organization through his local lodge, Mid-Hudson FOP Lodge No. 188,
where he has also served on the Executive Board; and

WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed man was President of the NYSFOP
Foundation, Inc., where he remains a Director on the Foundation's Board;
and

WHEREAS, A graduate of the Westchester County Police Academy,
Michael Essig serves as a Deputy Sheriff in its Anti-Terrorist
Analytical Group (ATAG); he also served as a union delegate for many
years at the Westchester County Department of Correction and has been
appointed to the Advisory Committee for the Orange County District
Attorney's Office; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering dedication to the law
enforcement community, Michael Essig served as Chairman of Homeland
Security for the 19th Congressional District, as well as Parliamentarian
and Vice-President of the Orange County Shields, and Vice-President of
the Rockland County Steuben Association; he is also a member of the
Rockland County Shields; and

WHEREAS, Michael Essig proudly serves as a member on the Board of
Directors for the Hudson Valley Easter Seals Thanksgiving and Christmas
food pantry outreach programs; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Vicki, and their
two children, Robert and Brianna, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Michael Essig, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael Essig upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Person of the Year Award by the National Police Defense Foundation
on May 3, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michael Essig.
