HONORING Bridget G. Brennan upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Lifetime
Achievement Award by the National Police Defense
Foundation on May 3, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who devote their life's work and
purpose to public service, contributing to the care and welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Bridget G. Brennan upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Police Defense
Foundation, to be celebrated at its Annual Awards Dinner on Wednesday,
May 3, 2017, at Russo's on the Bay, Howard Beach, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1995, the National Police Defense Foundation
(NPDF) provides critical medical and legal support services to the law
enforcement community and its membership which now exceeds more than
205,000 members and supporters nationwide and in 12 foreign countries;
and
WHEREAS, Bridget G. Brennan has been New York City's Special
Narcotics Prosecutor since 1998; appointed by the city's five elected
District Attorneys, she is the first woman to hold the esteemed
position; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Bridget G. Brennan is in charge of an
agency solely dedicated to the investigation and prosecution of
narcotics offenses in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Bridget G. Brennan, the Office
of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor is widely recognized for its legal
and technological expertise; it processes an average of 3,000 arrests a
year, prosecutes national and international drug trafficking and money
laundering organizations, and oversees large-scale operations targeting
violent drug gangs in New York City neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, As an alternative to serving time in prison, Special
Narcotics runs programs that offer treatment to hundreds of addicted
defendants every year; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Office of the Special Narcotics in
1992, Bridget G. Brennan served as the Chief of the Special
Investigations Bureau, overseeing some of the most significant narcotics
investigations in the country; and
WHEREAS, Bridget G. Brennan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Journalism from the University of Wisconsin; she went on to earn her
Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Bridget G. Brennan, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Bridget G. Brennan upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Police
Defense Foundation on May 3, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Bridget G. Brennan.
