COMMENDING The Angela and Scott Jagger Foundation
upon the occasion of its designation for special
recognition by Residents for a More Beautiful Port
Washington

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that the quality
and character of life in the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations and
individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and
its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend The Angela and Scott Jagger Foundation upon the occasion of its
designation for special recognition by Residents for a More Beautiful
Port Washington to be celebrated at its Annual Gala Dinner on Friday,
March 17, 2017, at Leonard's of Great Neck, New York; and

WHEREAS, Since 1968, Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington
has been dedicated to creating a strong, unified and sustainable
community in Port Washington, New York, and its surrounding areas; and

WHEREAS, Each year, at its Annual Gala Dinner, Residents for a More
Beautiful Port Washington proudly honors those individuals who have
worked to support its mission of helping to make Port Washington an
outstanding community in which to live and work; and

WHEREAS, Angela and Scott Jagger have always had an interest in
giving back to the community; as a Professor of Education at New York
University (NYU), Angela Jagger co-founded and directed the University's
Reading Recovery Project, served as a literacy consultant to State
Departments of Education and school districts across the country, and
held numerous leadership positions in professional organizations,
including President of the National Conference on Research in Language
and Literacy; and

WHEREAS, Scott Jagger proudly served his country as a trained
Japanese Interpreter with the Army Ground Forces during World War II;
after his discharge, he studied Asian Civilizations at the University of
Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Scott Jagger changed career paths to
computer programming, becoming the National Systems and Data Processing
Manager at United Parcel Service (UPS), where he worked for 30 years; in
addition, he served on President Reagan's Grace Commission; and

WHEREAS, Since Angela Jagger's retirement from NYU, she has devoted
her time and energy to working with non-profit organizations which serve
diverse communities; she participated on the Board of Directors of Women
on the Job and Literacy Volunteers of New York City and a founding
member of the Belmont Child Care Association; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Angela Jagger was elected to the Adelphi
University Board of Trustees in September of 2008, and is a trustee of
the Family and Children's Association; from 2003-2004, she served on the
Board of Directors and was co-President of Port Washington's Historic
Community and Performing Arts Center, Landmark on Main Street; and

WHEREAS, For her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her
community, Angela Jagger was the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished
Alumna Award by the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and
Human Development; and

WHEREAS, The Angela and Scott Jagger Foundation was established by
the Jagger family to further their support for those in need by
improving the quality of life through education, the performing arts,
and social services that benefit children, their families, and the
communities in which they live; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception in 2008, The Angela and Scott Jagger
Foundation has provided grants to more than 20 non-profit organizations
throughout Long Island and the New York metropolitan area, including
Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington; and

WHEREAS, For their dedication to the community, Angela and Scott
Jagger were honored for their contributions to Landmark Theater and the
larger community; and

WHEREAS, Angela and Scott Jagger have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of their time unstintingly; as strong proponents of
free educational programming, they have helped to create and now
underwrite the popular Conversations from Main Street series; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Angela and Scott Jagger Foundation upon the occasion of its
designation for special recognition by Residents for a More Beautiful
Port Washington; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Angela and Scott Jagger.
