HONORING Bruce T. Sackman upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the President's Award by
the National Police Defense Foundation on May 3,
2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who devote their life's work and
purpose to public service, contributing to the care and welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Bruce T. Sackman upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
President's Award by the National Police Defense Foundation, to be
celebrated at its Annual Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at
Russo's on the Bay, Howard Beach, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1995, the National Police Defense Foundation
(NPDF) provides critical medical and legal support services to the law
enforcement community and its membership which now exceeds more than
205,000 members and supporters nationwide and in 12 foreign countries;
and
WHEREAS, Bruce T. Sackman served as the Special Agent in Charge of
the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of
Inspector General, Criminal Investigations Division, Northeast Field
Office until May of 2005, when he retired after 32 years of
distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Bruce T. Sackman was responsible for all
major criminal investigations involving Veterans Affairs from West
Virginia to Maine; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure, Bruce T. Sackman was
involved in hundreds of investigations involving allegations of fraud,
corruption, false claims, thefts, patient assaults, pharmaceutical drug
diversions and suspicious hospital deaths; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he was responsible for supervising the
successful investigation of the nation's first homicide conviction in
connection with pharmaceutical research; and
WHEREAS, Bruce T. Sackman's cases involving medical professionals
who have murdered their patients have been featured on the Discovery
Health Channel, CNN, MSNBC, Home Box Office and "America's Most Wanted";
and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he has lectured at several forensic related
conferences, state police organizations, the Federal Law Enforcement
Training Center, universities and medical related symposia; and
WHEREAS, Bruce T. Sackman is currently self-employed as a licensed
private investigator in New York City specializing in healthcare related
matters; under contract he directs all major investigations for a major
New York metropolitan regional healthcare system; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man also serves as an associate with the
Washington D.C. Academy Group, an internationally renowned forensic
behavioral science firm; and
WHEREAS, Since becoming the President of the Society of Professional
Investigators in 2010, Bruce T. Sackman has greatly enhanced the
reputation and stature of the organization by vastly increasing its
membership, treasury, and dedication to its mission of education and
networking for the investigative community; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Bruce T. Sackman, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Bruce T. Sackman upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the President's Award by the National Police Defense Foundation on
May 3, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Bruce T. Sackman.
