HONORING Chief Inspector Sergio Cirelli upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Special Achievement Award by the National Police
Defense Foundation on May 3, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who devote their life's work and
purpose to public service, contributing to the care and welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Chief Inspector Sergio Cirelli upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Special Achievement Award by the National Police
Defense Foundation, to be celebrated at its Annual Awards Dinner on
Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Russo's on the Bay, Howard Beach, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Established in 1995, the National Police Defense Foundation
(NPDF) provides critical medical and legal support services to the law
enforcement community and its membership which now exceeds more than
205,000 members and supporters nationwide and in 12 foreign countries;
and
WHEREAS, Chief Inspector Sergio Cirelli is a 31-year police veteran
of the Italian State Police (Polizia di Stato), and is being recognized
with this auspicious award for his long-term commitment to law
enforcement and life-long accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, For the past 12 years, Chief Inspector Sergio Cirelli has
been assigned to the Italian Consulate where he serves as its official
police attache at the New York-New Jersey Consulates; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, he coordinates police activities with
United States law enforcement officials on sensitive criminal
investigations involving organized crime, human trafficking, drug
distribution, terrorism and fraud; and
WHEREAS, Currently assigned as the Italian State Police Interpol
representative covering New York, New Jersey and other states, Sergio
Cirelli has been credited for being an integral part of these sensitive
criminal investigations which includes the apprehension of international
fugitives; and
WHEREAS, Chief Inspector Sergio Cirelli has completed various
courses and has certifications in diving in open water, emergency first
response, and rescue diving; he also obtained Parachutist Pat. 9
certification while attending Special Forces Military School of
Latacunga, Italy; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man has been the proud recipient of numerous
awards and accolades throughout his distinguished career in law
enforcement including, the Silver Cross of Merit, Gold Medal for Service
Excellence, and Silver Medal for Service Excellence; he was also awarded
the Certificate of Merit by the Police Chief of Newark, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Chief Inspector Cirelli is the official New York and New
Jersey representative of the National Association of Police State
(ANPS), which is the fraternal organization representing the Italian
State Police worldwide; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he is the official Delegate of the National
Police Defense Foundation (NPDF) to Italy, where he has arranged
numerous NPDF police conference and humanitarian missions to help
critically ill children worldwide; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Sergio Cirelli, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief Inspector Sergio Cirelli upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Special Achievement Award by the
National Police Defense Foundation on May 3, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Chief Inspector Sergio Cirelli.
