COMMEMORATING the 30th Anniversary of AIDS
Coalition to Unleash Power
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power; and
WHEREAS, AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP), was formed in
March of 1987 in New York City by a group of people as a diverse,
nonpartisan group of individuals united and committed to direct action
to end the AIDS crisis; and
WHEREAS, ACT UP advocates meet with government and health officials
and research and distribute the latest medical information; one of its
goals is to fully educate society on the AIDS crisis; and
WHEREAS, ACT UP strives for the following: adequate funding or
leadership for AIDS research, health care, or housing for people with
AIDS; proper advertisement of lifesaving information about safer sex,
clean needles, and other AIDS prevention; and nondiscriminatory
practices against people who are living with AIDS; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power.
