COMMENDING H. Carl McCall upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition as the 2016 Gala
Honoree by the Hudson Valley Community College
Foundation
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and
energies to the service of their community and profession, participating
in civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend H. Carl McCall upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition as the 2016 Gala Honoree by the Hudson Valley Community
College Foundation to be celebrated at its annual gala to celebrate the
Educational Opportunity Center's 50th Anniversary "Golden Opportunities"
on Friday, October 14, 2016; and
WHEREAS, H. Carl McCall was appointed Chairman of the State
University of New York Board of Trustees on October 17, 2011; he has
been a passionate advocate for public education; and
WHEREAS, H. Carl McCall served as President of the New York City
Board of Education from 1991-1993, where he set policy for the largest
school system in the nation and as the Chairman of the Public Higher
Education Conference Board; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man has had a distinguished career as a
public servant; from 1993 to 2002, H. Carl McCall served as Comptroller
of the State of New York; in addition, he served three terms as a New
York State Senator representing upper Manhattan; as an Ambassador to the
United Nations; as a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and
New Jersey; and as the Commissioner of the New York State Division of
Human Rights; and
WHEREAS, His long and distinguished service to the people of New
York and the populations served by the Educational Opportunity Center's
throughout the state are to be commended; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend H. Carl McCall upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition as the 2016 Gala Honoree by the Hudson Valley Community
College Foundation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to H. Carl McCall.
