HONORING Karen C. Erickson upon the occasion of
her designation as the 2016 Citizen of the Year by
the Evans-Brant Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Karen C. Erickson has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Karen C.
Erickson upon the occasion of her designation as the 2016 Citizen of the
Year by the Evans-Brant Chamber of Commerce, to be celebrated on
Saturday, March 25, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Karen C. Erickson has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Evans, New York, Karen C. Erickson
is the co-owner of Connors Hot Dog Stand, a successful business which
has served the village of Angola since 1944; over the years, she has
employed generations of people, many of whom worked to pay for their
college education; and
WHEREAS, Karen C. Erickson raised eight children while serving as
the Sports Director at Most Precious Blood School for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to her community, Karen C. Erickson is past
treasurer of Community Nursery School at First Congregation United
Church of Evans, past member of the Community Concern Board, past member
of the Buffalo Diocesan School Board, and past School Board member of
St. Francis High School; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she was an active member of the Evans Town
Board from 1998 to 2010, serving as a Councilwoman and Deputy
Supervisor; and
WHEREAS, Karen C. Erickson is currently Secretary of the Board of
the Business and Finance Academy at Lake Shore Central, and has been a
member of the Evans Economic Development Committee for more than a
decade; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to volunteerism,
Karen C. Erickson has worked with Meals on Wheels for 15 years, and has
sponsored countless youth baseball and soccer teams as well as Boys and
Girls Club events; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Karen C. Erickson has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Karen C. Erickson has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Karen C. Erickson, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Karen C. Erickson upon the occasion of her designation as the 2016
Citizen of the Year by the Evans-Brant Chamber of Commerce; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Karen C. Erickson.
