HONORING Greg Furlong upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2016 Lifetime
Achievement Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Greg Furlong has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Greg Furlong
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2016 Lifetime
Achievement Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce, to be
celebrated at its Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Friday, March
31, 2017, at the Red Barn Clubhouse, Cobleskill, New York; and

WHEREAS, Called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless
civic and charitable endeavors, Greg Furlong has always given of himself
unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Greg Furlong serves as the president of Leatherstocking
Honor Flight, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to taking World
War II Veterans, at no cost, to Washington, D.C. to experience the World
War II Memorial; and

WHEREAS, Established in 2008, Leatherstocking Honor Flight is a hub
of the national Honor Flight Network, and was created to honor America's
World War II veterans for their sacrifices; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Greg Furlong,
Leatherstocking Honor Flight has taken more than 1,000 World War II
Veterans to Washington D.C. since its inception, the oldest being 100
years old; and

WHEREAS, In addition, with a steadfast and unwavering commitment to
the community, Greg Furlong serves on the Schoharie County Child
Development Council as a policy council member, and as a youth soccer
coach; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Greg Furlong has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Greg Furlong has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent

of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Greg Furlong, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Greg Furlong upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Greg Furlong.
