Senate Resolution No. 1279

HONORING Ronald and Cheryl Silverman upon the
occasion of their designation as Guests of Honor at
the North Shore Hebrew Academy's Annual Dinner on
April 2, 2017
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ronald and
Cheryl Silverman upon the occasion of their designation as Guests of
Honor at the North Shore Hebrew Academy's Annual Dinner on Sunday, April
2, 2017, at the Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation, Old Westbury, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Manhattan Beach, Cheryl Silverman
graduated from Yeshiva of Flatbush; she went on to earn a Bachelor of
Science degree in Finance from New York University Stern School of
Business; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Cheryl Silverman had successful careers in
both commercial real estate investment sales and mortgage banking; she
currently serves as a commercial real estate broker at Keller Williams
Gold Coast Commercial Realty; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to the North
Shore Hebrew Academy (NSHA), Cheryl Silverman has dedicated her time to
serve both NSHA and NSHAHS for more than 15 years; she has been a member
of the NSHA Board of Trustees and serves on the High School English
Board; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Silverman has also served as Vice President of the
NSHA PTA, and was integrally involved in helping to develop and expand
the early childhood program; in addition, she served as President of the
Great Neck AMIT Chapter and is active in both the Young Israel of Great
Neck and Great Neck Synagogue; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Silverman, affectionately known as Ron, was born in
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and was raised in Hartford, Connecticut; he
is a graduate of the Yeshiva of Hartford and Kingswood-Oxford School;
and
WHEREAS, After attending McGill University, Ron Silverman graduated
from Trinity College with Honors in Hartford, Connecticut; he went on to
graduate from the University of Connecticut School of Law and attended
the Royal Dutch University of The Netherlands in Leiden, where he
specialized in International Law; and
WHEREAS, Currently a partner in the international law firm of Hogan
Lovells, LLP, Ron Silverman has served as pro bono legal counsel to NSHA
since the early 2000s; he is a member of the NSHA Board of Trustees and
serves on its Executive Committee; he has also served on the Board of
YIGN; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their five children,
Jonathan, Aaron, Noam, Aytan and Galit, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of their lives and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Ron and Cheryl Silverman, that future generations may know and
appreciate their admirable character, their many benevolent deeds, and
their respect and esteem in which they are held by their peers; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ronald and Cheryl Silverman upon the occasion of their designation
as Guests of Honor at the North Shore Hebrew Academy's Annual Dinner on
April 2, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ronald and Cheryl Silverman.
