Senate Resolution No. 1280

HONORING Drs. Scott and Laura Danoff upon the
occasion of their designation as Guests of Honor at
the North Shore Hebrew Academy's Annual Dinner on
April 2, 2017
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Drs. Scott
and Laura Danoff upon the occasion of their designation as Guests of
Honor at the North Shore Hebrew Academy's Annual Dinner on Sunday, April
2, 2017, at the Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation, Old Westbury, New
York; and
WHEREAS, True inspirational visionaries in the Jewish community,
Scott and Laura Danoff are beloved for their boundless, warm energy and
their passion for the North Shore Hebrew Academy; and
WHEREAS, Laura and Scott Danoff both grew up in Brooklyn, New York,
but did not meet until they attended the University of Pennsylvania
School of Dental Medicine; the couple moved to Great Neck shortly after
graduation, and have become established leaders in their fields of
Orthodontics and Dentistry; and
WHEREAS, Laura Danoff runs a busy orthodontics practice in Great
Neck, where she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and
Elite provider of Invisalign, among the top five percent in North
America; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Danoff was
named one of the "Top 25 Women in Dentistry" in 2013, and was recently
named a "2017 Woman of Distinction" for her significant career
achievements and contributions to society; and
WHEREAS, Scott Danoff practices both general dentistry and
prosthodontics in his Little Neck office; he is the Chief of
Prosthodontics at LIJ Hospital and is a leading dentist for treating
those with sleep apnea and snoring issues using dental appliances; he
has been listed in New York Magazines' "Best Doctors," "Best Dentists in
America," and "Who's Who," as well as the Queens Courier for
professional achievements; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to the NSHA,
Laura Danoff has served on its Board of Trustees, and spearheaded
Professional Women's Month at North Shore Hebrew Academy High School;
she has also mentored dozens of NSHA students seeking a career in
dentistry through internships within her practice; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Laura Danoff is past editor of "Peace of
Parsha," a weekly D'var Torah written for the Great Neck Synagogue, and
is a frequent speaker and host of a women's "Lunch and Learn," Parshat
Ha'Shavua shiur; and
WHEREAS, As President of the Great Neck Synagogue from 2012 to 2014,
Scott Danoff worked tirelessly ensuring its growth and success; at NSHA,
he organized a student program sending needed medical and dental
supplies to Israel; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in
New Orleans, Scott Danoff provided free dental services to those in
need; and
WHEREAS, Avid lovers of the outdoors, Scott and Laura Danoff have
biked more than 300 miles for Alyn Hospital in Jerusalem and led team
Great Neck for five years to raise funds for chronically disabled
children; the couple also delivers food before the holidays for Tomchei
Shabbos in Queens; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their five children,
Jonathan (Danielle), Katie (Nadav), Jaclyn (Michael), Emily (Moshe) and
Stephanie (Jonathan), as well as seven grandchildren, Olivia, Jacob,
Noa, Morgan, Max, Aura and Yaelle, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of their lives and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Scott and Laura Danoff, that future generations may know and appreciate
their admirable character, their many benevolent deeds, and their
respect and esteem in which they are held by their peers; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Drs. Scott and Laura Danoff upon the occasion of their designation
as Guests of Honor at the North Shore Hebrew Academy's Annual Dinner on
April 2, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Drs. Scott and Laura Danoff.
