HONORING Alex Goldberg upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Herbert A. Applebaum
Memorial Award by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish
Community Center

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Alex Goldberg upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Herbert A. Applebaum Memorial Award by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish
Community Center, to be celebrated on Sunday, April 30, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Each year, this prestigious awards ceremony recognizes
individuals for their contributions to the Center and the Jewish
community-at-large by acting as moral pillars and dispensers of wisdom
and advice, providing continued service and leadership, and acting
generously in the spirit of Tzedakah; and

WHEREAS, Alex Goldberg's involvement in the Capital Region Jewish
Community began when his family moved to the area in 2002; he attended
nursery school at Temple Israel, and was enrolled in both camp and swim
lessons at the Albany Jewish Community Center (JCC); and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to the Jewish
Community Center, Alex Goldberg has been a member of the
Albany-Schenectady Delegation for the past three JCC Maccabi Games; he
will also serve as a Junior Coach this summer when the Capital Region
hosts the Games; and

WHEREAS, A member of both Congregation Beth Emeth and Temple Israel,
Alex Goldberg has served on the Board of Congregation Beth Emeth Youth
Group for the past three years, most recently serving as President; and

WHEREAS, Alex Goldberg also volunteers his time and energies to
several local organizations including the Bethlehem Youth Court; and

WHEREAS, A student at Bethlehem Central High School, Alex Goldberg
maintains a rigorous curriculum, and has been on the Honor Roll each
quarter; he is a member of the Varsity Ice Hockey Team, as well as a
member of the Jazz Band and Marching Band; and

WHEREAS, Alex Goldberg has been the proud recipient of numerous
awards and accolades some of which include, the Coach's Award for
Outstanding Contribution to the Varsity Hockey Team and the Rabbi's
Award for Excellence in Confirmation Class; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his parents, Craig and Joanna
Goldberg, and his two younger brothers, Ben and Tyler, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and


WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to wish Alex Goldberg continued success throughout his school years
and beyond; and

WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his commitment to others,
Alex Goldberg represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alex Goldberg upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Herbert A. Applebaum Memorial Award by the Sidney Albert Albany
Jewish Community Center; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alex Goldberg.
