CONGRATULATING the Jamesville-Dewitt Girls Varsity
Basketball Team upon the occasion of winning the
2017 Class A New York State Public High School
Athletic Association (NYSPHAA) Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through rigorous practice, solid teamwork, and a dedicated
coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young people within our communities, who by achieving outstanding
success in athletic competition, have inspired and brought great pride
to their school district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, promoting a desire for success, and by
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize and
congratulate the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team upon
the occasion of winning the 2017 Class A New York State Public High
School Athletic Association (NYSPHAA) Championship by defeating
Pittsford-Mendon High School at Hudson Valley Community College on
Saturday March 18, 2017; and
WHEREAS, The Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team
advanced to the State competition after winning the Section III Class A
title and the Onondaga High School (OHSL) Freedom League; in the State
tournament, the J-D Red Rams defeated two other teams before facing the
number one-seeded Pittsford-Mendon Vikings in the final championship
game; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Class A Basketball Championship game was
a thriller from start to finish; the Red Rams trailed most of the first
half, before putting on a furious rally to capture the lead in the third
quarter; the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team eventually
beat Pittsford-Mendon in a close finish with a final score of (48-46);
and
WHEREAS, For the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team,
this latest State title marks the second consecutive NYSPHAA
championship overall, further establishing the program as a New York
State powerhouse; and
WHEREAS, The Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team
finished its impressive 2016-2017 season with an overall record of 22-6;
and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding players of
the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team proved to be an
unbeatable combination of talents and determination throughout their
successful season, reflecting favorably on their high school and the
entire Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District; and
WHEREAS, The extraordinary athletic talent displayed by the
Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team is in great part due to
the efforts of Head Coach Robert Siechen and Assistant Coach Caroline
Cottet; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball
2016-2017 season, the team members were loyally and enthusiastically
supported by family, friends and fans from throughout the entire
community; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity
Basketball Team rallied behind one another in establishing a sisterhood
of athletes and sportsmanship to demonstrate that these team players are
second to none; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
hereby recognize and congratulate the members of the Jamesville-DeWitt
Varsity Girls Basketball Team: Sydney Baker, Julia Kelner, Angela
Bussone, Andrea Sumida, Gabby Stickle, Paige Keeler, Maya Leslie, Meg
Hair, Jamie Boeheim, Momo LaClair, and Kasey Vaughan, Head Coach Robert
Siechen and Assistant Coach Caroline Cottet on their outstanding season
and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity
Basketball Team, Head Coach Robert Siechen and Assistant Coach Caroline
Cottet.
