COMMENDING Chhaya Patel, M.D. upon the occasion of
her designation for special honor at Doctor's
Recognition Day on March 29, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality of life in the communities across this great State of New
York is enriched by the diligence and compassionate commitment of those
individuals whose singular purpose is the care and welfare of others;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Chhaya Patel, M.D. upon the occasion of her designation for
special honor by the Medical Society of the County of Kings, Inc., the
Academy of Medicine of Brooklyn and the Richmond County Medical Society,
to be celebrated at its Doctor's Recognition Day on Wednesday, March 29,
2017, at Gargiulo's Restaurant, Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chhaya Patel began her illustrious career laying the
foundation of the Department of Pediatrics at Woodhull Medical Center 35
years ago as a residency graduate from Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the past three decades, Dr. Chhaya Patel has
been instrumental in spearheading and developing various quality
assurance and improvement projects including, hepatitis B prevention,
neonatal newborn screening, expedited maternal and infant HIV testing,
shortened length of hospital stay for term infants, brachial plexus
injury surveillance, RSV prophylaxis, high risk developmental clinic
follow-up, the parent support group and bereavement committee, among
others; and

WHEREAS, In 1984, Dr. Chhaya Patel was recruited to the Neonatology
service where she expanded her understanding and practice of neonatal
care in a Level III hospital, and gained an abundance of knowledge and
skills taking care of premature infants; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chhaya Patel has also had a profound impact on Woodhull
Hospital's General Pediatrics residency training program; her role as an
educator extends to the medical students, physician assistants and nurse
trainees who frequently rotate in the nursery and neonatal ICU; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Chhaya Patel's administrative
responsibilities include presiding over the Credentials and the Pharmacy
and Therapeutics Committees of the hospital; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Mahendra, and
their children, Prachee and Pratik, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and

WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of her duties and
responsibilities, Dr. Chhaya Patel's ongoing efforts and notable

achievements have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of
life in her community; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure, Dr. Chhaya Patel continuously
displayed initiative and an unrelenting commitment when pursuing the
highest of goals, and she has served as a role model of leadership to be
emulated by all; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Chhaya Patel, M.D. upon the occasion of her designation for
special honor at Doctor's Recognition Day on March 29, 2017; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Chhaya Patel, M.D.
