HONORING Roger Thompson upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition after 70 years
of dedicated service to the Yorktown Heights Engine
Company

WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our noble volunteer firefighters who exhibit courage and
bravery every day in the course of their duties; and

WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters exemplify the power of human
compassion and the strength of the American spirit through actions of
the most heroic magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless
dedication merit tribute and recognition by all citizens of this great
country; and

WHEREAS, Roger Thompson will be honored by the Yorktown Heights
Engine Company for 70 years of dedicated service during its Installation
Dinner to be held at Sinapi's Ceola Manor on Friday, April 7, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Roger Thompson has been a resident of Yorktown Heights
since 1935; and

WHEREAS, At the age of 18, Roger Thompson joined the Air National
Guard and served in White Plains from 1948 until he was activated for
duty at the start of the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Roger Thompson served his country with honor in the United
States Air Force form 1950 until 1952, and was stationed in Newfoundland
tracking Russian submarines in the North Atlantic; he achieved the
esteemed rank of Airman First Class; and

WHEREAS Since 1947, Roger Thompson has been a dedicated member of the
Yorktown Heights Engine Company and is its longest-standing member; and

WHEREAS Roger Thompson has been a member of the American Legion since
1953, and also dedicates his time to the Yorktown Lions Club; and

WHEREAS Roger Thompson was married to his loving wife, the late Carol
Thompson; together they had two children, George and Janice; today,
Roger is the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Roger Thompson is a tremendous asset to the Yorktown
Heights Engine Company and has inspired others through his tireless
dedication and longevity of service; and

WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
Roger Thompson is such a firefighter; throughout 70 years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Roger Thompson upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 70 years of dedicated service to the Yorktown Heights
Engine Company; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Roger Thompson.
