honoring the Schenectady Pipe Band upon the
occasion of its designation as recipient of the
Community Partnership Award by the St. Anne
Institute
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those musical organizations that have brought entertainment and
cultural enrichment to the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the Schenectady Pipe Band upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the Community Partnership Award by the St. Anne Institute
to be celebrated at its Stars over Shanghai Event on Friday, April 28,
2017, at the Normanside Country Club in Delmar, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition to receiving this prestigious award, the
Schenectady Pipe Band will be recognized for 100 years of providing both
recreation and education for its members, as well as entertainment and
enrichment to the public, by presenting concerts in accordance with the
best precepts of musical tradition and by participating in community
educational and musical activities; and
WHEREAS, The Schenectady Pipe Band is a non-profit organization that
strives to promote the public appreciation and playing of pipes and
drums through fellowship, performance, competition, and continuous
development of skills; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its storied history, the Schenectady Pipe Band
has been competing at Scottish games throughout the Eastern United
States and Canada, as well as in Scotland; many members also choose to
participate in solo competitions; these events not only reward
individual achievements, but also offer incentive to further improve
playing skills; and
WHEREAS, The Schenectady Pipe Band is comprised of people of all
ages, walks of life and national descent bound by their common love for
the thrilling music of the Highland bagpipe and drum; the Band performs
several dozen times a year for a variety of events and practices weekly
in order to maintain and improve its standard of performance; and
WHEREAS, It is most fitting that we take time to celebrate the music
of our Nation, to honor our artists and musicians, and to express our
appreciation to everyone who patronizes the arts; and as we celebrate
the music, we celebrate and give thanks to our American freedom, the
only atmosphere in which artists can truly create and in which music is
truly the expression of the soul; and
WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form presented, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; individuals who provide a means of preserving
a part of our rich American past and which contribute to the community
in such noble endeavors as aforementioned, are held in the highest
regard by this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Schenectady Pipe Band upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the Community Partnership Award by the St. Anne Institute;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Schenectady Pipe Band.
