CONGRATULATING the Windsor Central School District
upon the occasion of being recognized as a 21st
Century Learning Exemplar School District by the P21
Exemplar Program
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of the Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Windsor Central School District upon the occasion of
being named the only district in New York State and 1 of 12 districts
across the country, a 21st Century Learning Exemplar School District;
and
WHEREAS, In 2002, the United States Department of Education, along
with Ken Kay, Diny Golder-Dardis, AOL Time Warner Foundation, Apple
Computer, Inc., Cable in the Classroom, Cisco Systems, Inc., Dell
Computer Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, and the National Education
Association as well as SAP founded the 21st Century Learning Exemplar
Program or P21; and
WHEREAS, The coalition was formed to bring together the business
community, education and policymakers to position 21st century readiness
at the center of United States kindergarten-12 education and to
kick-start a national conversation of the importance of 21st century
skills for all students; and
WHEREAS, The Windsor Central School District is proud to recognize
the great work that its teachers and students are doing every day; under
the extraordinary leadership of Superintendent, Dr. Jason A. Andrews,
Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Scott Beattie, Assistant
Superintendent for Business and Administrative Services, Andrew
Forentino, Director of Data, Accountability and Continuous Improvement,
Barbara Phillips, and Windsor Middle School Teacher, Stephanie Olbrys,
this innovative School is committed to preparing students to be
successful and enlightened, whether they are college bound or interested
in working in the trade industry; and
WHEREAS, The Windsor Central School District was evaluated on six
areas of designation: evidence of commitment to college, career and life
readiness, educational support systems and sustainable design, engaged
learning approaches, equitable student access to 21st century learning,
evidence of student acquisition of 21st century knowledge and skills,
and partnerships for sustainable success; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in elementary school, students at the Windsor
Central School District have been working with robotics and learning
code; even the youngest students have access to iPads and other forms of
innovative learning methods using applicable learning methods; and
WHEREAS, The Windsor Central School District has continually
demonstrated an impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an
unremitting enthusiasm for the quality of educational programs and
opportunities offered for the benefit of its faculty and students as
well as for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, The Windsor Central School District stands prepared to
reach out, in earnest and enthusiastic quest of its mission, to promote
the maximum growth of every student, establishing standards and building
skills which will carry its students and the citizens of its community
into the future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Windsor Central School District upon the occasion of
being recognized as a 21st Century Learning Exemplar School District by
the P21 Exemplar Program, noting the significance of its accomplishments
and recognizing the role such effective schools play in shaping the
quality of life in their community, State and Nation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Jason A. Andrews, Superintendent, the Windsor Central
School District.
