HONORING Ruth Klement posthumously upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition
in conjunction with the observance of National
Library Workers Day

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across the great
State of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions and
individuals whose purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the
needs of its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Ruth Klement posthumously upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition in conjunction with the observance of National
Library Workers Day, to be celebrated on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in
Mineola, New York; and

WHEREAS, National Library Workers Day (NLWD) is a day for library
staff, users, administrators and friends groups to recognize the
valuable contributions made by all library workers; and

WHEREAS, On January 25, 2003, a resolution was proposed to recognize
the hard work, dedication, and expertise of library support staff and
librarians on the Tuesday of National Library Week, and to designate
this day as National Library Workers Day; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Klement began her illustrious career at the Great Neck
Library in September of 1983, as a full time clerk in circulation; she
earned her Master of Library Science degree and became a librarian in
1989, before being promoted to Lakeville Branch Head in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Beloved by all who knew her, Ruth Klement was extremely
proud of the Lakeville Branch Library, and welcomed all who entered its
doors; she had a special way of always bringing a smile to one's face
and laughter when it was needed most; her incredible sense of humor
consistently lifted the spirit; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Lakeville Branch Library is in direct
correlation to the efforts of Ruth Klement, whose involvement was
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the library and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the late Ruth Klement;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ruth Klement posthumously upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition in conjunction with the observance of National
Library Workers Day; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ruth Klement.
