Senate Resolution No. 1527

COMMENDING Leo Ullman upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Jewish
Community Relations Council at the Annual Holocaust
Remembrance Day Commemoration on April 27, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Leo Ullman upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Jewish Community Relations Council at the Annual
Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration to be held on Thursday, April
27, 2017, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York; and
WHEREAS, Holocaust Remembrance Day, known in Hebrew as Yom HaShoah,
is a day set aside for remembering the victims of the Holocaust and for
reminding New Yorkers, all Americans, and people around the world of
what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred and
indifference reign; and
WHEREAS, At this auspicious event, Leo Ullman will be recognized for
his diligent work in creating a more civil society for the citizens of
not only Nassau County, but the entire State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in the Netherlands, Leo Ullman and his family
immigrated to the United States when he was 8-1/2 years-old; after
graduating from Phillips Academy Andover, he earned his bachelor's
degree from Harvard College; he furthered his education by obtaining his
Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School, and his
Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School; and
WHEREAS, From 1959-1965, Leo Ullman proudly served his country as a
member of the United State Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve; and
WHEREAS, In 1965, Leo Ullman began his long and distinguished law
career at Sullivan & Cromwell, the position from which he officially
retired after 35 years of service; in 1968 and 1969, he served as Deputy
Assistant Chief Counsel at the United States Office of Foreign Direct
Investments, where he published a monograph for the Bureau of National
Affairs on those regulations; and
WHEREAS, Leo Ullman then joined the international law firm of Baker
Mackenzie in New York, and subsequently, formed his own firm, Ullman,
Miller & Wrubel; his clientele consisted primarily of foreign
institutional and private investors in United States real estate,
including major financial institutions; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Leo Ullman serves as Chairman
of the Foundation for the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam, Inc.,
and a is a vital member of the Development Committee of the United
States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Leo Ullman upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Jewish Community Relations Council at the Annual
Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Robert Molder.
