COMMENDING Mc Carrick's Dairy for its many years
of extraordinary service and vitality in the
community of Rocky Point, New York
WHEREAS, Within each community of this great State of New York there
are certain businesses that define the nature of the region and the
people who inhabit it; and
WHEREAS, Such is true of Mc Carrick's Dairy, located on Route 25A in
the hamlet of Rocky Point, New York, which has proudly provided milk and
grocery products, as well as employment for residents on the North Shore
for more than seven prosperous decades; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Mc Carrick's Dairy for its many years of extraordinary service
and vitality in the community of Rocky Point, New York; and
WHEREAS, Mc Carrick's Dairy which has been there for many
generations of local residents and once delivered milk to hundreds of
homes, will close its doors to the public for the very last time at 6:00
p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017, after many incredible and successful
years; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its storied history, the fourth generation
family business has employed over 50 members of the Mc Carrick family,
and at least 500 of their friends and local children, most being their
first job; and
WHEREAS, Proprietors Hugh and Kevin Mc Carrick and their sister
Bridget Idtensohn, are all happy to know their children are well
established in their own careers but are saddened to see the family
business close; they all look forward to retirement and promising
futures; and
WHEREAS, In 1911, Hugh and Bridget Mc Carrick immigrated to the
United States from Silgo, Ireland, in search of the American dream; the
couple settled in Rocky Point, and managed a farm with chickens and
cows; and
WHEREAS, Realizing there was a need and desire for fresh dairy
products, Hugh Mc Carrick began delivering milk, twice a day, to the
residents of Rocky Point; and
WHEREAS, In 1946, Hugh and Bridget Mc Carrick's son, Thomas and his
wife, Phyllis, founded Mc Carrick's Dairy Store; the Mc Carricks
continued to sell their products to their neighbors, schools and other
businesses throughout the region; and
WHEREAS, At that time, Rocky Point was a popular destination for
summer travelers; Thomas Mc Carrick enjoyed getting to know the
visitors, and would stay open late on Fridays and Saturdays to
accommodate their needs; and
WHEREAS, As the family business prospered, a new store was opened in
the early 1980s, becoming a central hub for the community; customers
frequented Mc Carrick's Dairy to purchase a wide variety of products
ranging from dairy, cold cuts, produce, canned goods, and many other
household items; and
WHEREAS, The Mc Carrick's Dairy and many of their family members
have been actively involved in the community; proud of their Irish
heritage, they were instrumental in organizing the Annual St. Patrick's
Day Parade, and made several donations, both food and monetary, to
various local organizations; and
WHEREAS, For over seven decades, Mc Carrick's Dairy has stood as a
beloved establishment which has provided a friendly, open environment
for patrons to shop and meet with their neighbors; Hugh, Kevin, and
Bridget always greeted each and every one of their customers with a
smile, making them feel like family; and
WHEREAS, Since opening its doors, the owners and employees of Mc
Carrick's Dairy have brought an uncommon sense of quality and spirit to
the community, providing Rocky Point and the North Shore region not only
with quality products, but with good old-fashioned memories; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledge this exceptional small business and its contributions to the
local economy, and to wish Hugh, Kevin, and Bridget continued good
health and success in all their future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mc Carrick's Dairy for its many years of extraordinary service
and vitality in the community of Rocky Point, New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Hugh and Kevin Mc Carrick, and Bridget Idtensohn.
