CONGRATULATING Theresa V. McTague upon the
occasion of celebrating her 105th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Theresa V. McTague upon the occasion of celebrating her 105th Birthday;
and
WHEREAS, Theresa V. McTague was born on November 17, 1911, in
Sheffield, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, Theresa V. McTague, who has outlived her four sisters,
three brothers and her husband, Frank, attributes her longevity to her
healthy eating habits and her daily crossword puzzles; and
WHEREAS, She has resided in many areas of New York State including
Canaan, Lebanon and Rensselaer, where she worked for the Bayer Company
for 17 years, and in Salem, New York, where she and her husband, Frank,
operated Happy's Bar and Grill for 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Most recently Theresa V. McTague has lived in Fayetteville,
Canastota, Cape Vincent, Chaumont and now Watertown, New York, at the
Samaritan Keep Home; and
WHEREAS, Although Theresa V. McTague had no children of her own, she
is fondly thought of as a grandmother by her many nieces and nephews who
affectionately call her Aunt Babe; she has inspired her family with her
strength and beauty and they look forward to celebrating many more
birthdays with her; and
WHEREAS, This beloved centenarian has been known throughout her life
for her gourmet cooking and, in addition to her daily crossword puzzles,
she enjoys watching Yankees baseball and political news programs; and
WHEREAS, Theresa V. McTague has experienced the incredible joys and
sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina and
courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has enriched the lives of those
around her through her joyous and sincere love for life and through the
quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years;
and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Theresa V. McTague upon the occasion of celebrating her
105th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Theresa V. McTague.
