COMMEMORATING the 65th Anniversary of the Brooklyn
Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. on May 6,
2017

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those organizations within our midst who have
made significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
65th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill of America,
Inc. to be celebrated at A Brooklyn Blue Note Affair on Saturday, May 6,
2017, at Terrace on the Park in Flushing, New York; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1938, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a
membership organization of mothers with children ages 2-19 who are
dedicated to nurturing future leaders by supporting children through
leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and
civic duty; and

WHEREAS, For almost eight decades, Jack and Jill of America has
diligently worked to create a medium of contact for children which will
stimulate growth and development and provide children constructive
educational, cultural, civic, health, recreational and social programs;
and

WHEREAS, Since 1952, the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill of
America has been committed to engaging in community service, promoting
health and wellness, and establishing a solid foundation grounded in
philanthropy, leadership, and academic achievement for children; today,
with 74 families, this vital organization stays true to its motto "Let's
Work, Let's Play, Let's Live Together"; and

WHEREAS, For 65 years, the Chapter has strived to fulfill the
national organization's theme: "Power and Potential: Parents Empowering
Youth through Leadership Development, Cultural Heritage and Community
Service" through 18 formal committees including fundraising, charities,
technology, and community service; and

WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill is constantly
identifying opportunities and cultivating relationships in order to
support a variety of efforts in Brooklyn and around the nation; from
supporting recovery efforts of Sandy hurricane victims by physically
donating clothes and food to organizing Political Brunches for our teens
at the United Nations; and

WHEREAS, One of the Chapter's objectives is to increase academic
success and educational opportunities to African-American students
through a scholarship; the recipient of this incentive award must be in
need, attend a Brooklyn or Staten Island High School, maintain a B/3.0
average or better in high school, and apply to a four year college, as
well as demonstrate exemplary achievements in the areas of scholarship,
leadership and service in their community; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of President, Melinda
Alexis-Hayes, Esq., the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill of America
pledges to continue to act as an important pillar in its community in
order to empower and enrich the lives of our families; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 65th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and
Jill of America, Inc.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Melinda Alexis-Hayes, Esq., President, the Brooklyn
Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
