HONORING Candace Clemens for her outstanding
community service by the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary No.
726, Jamestown, New York, on May 6, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and honor the significant contributions of time and talents through
community and public service by certain esteemed residents of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Candace Clemens for her outstanding community service by the AMVETS
Ladies Auxiliary No. 726, Jamestown, New York, to be celebrated at a
testimonial Dinner on Saturday, May 6, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Candace Clemens resides in Allegany, New York, with her
husband, Bill; together, they have raised three children, daughters,
Kristen Keenen, and Michelle Raulak, and one son, the late SSG Shawn
Clemens; they have been further blessed with four grandchildren, Carly,
Parker, Gavin, and Alexis; and

WHEREAS, Candace Clemens received her Master's degree in Education
and retired in 2011, after being a teacher for more than 35 years; since
then, she has worked as a substitute teacher, has been a member of both
Delta Kappa Gamma and the Cattaraugus/Allegany BOCES School Board;
currently, she is the Chair for the Policy Committee, and serves as Vice
President of the BOCES Board; and

WHEREAS, Active in her community, presently Candace Clemens is
serving as President of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Department of New York;
volunteers at the Bath VAMC; is a VAVS Representative for AMVETS Ladies
Auxiliary; and serves as Secretary of the VAVS Executive Committee; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Candace Clemens is a member of the Western New
York Gold Star Mothers, helping with the Southern Tier Military Support
Group; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 892; and 2nd Vice
for AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary 726 in Jamestown, where she is also a life
member; and

WHEREAS, Candace Clemens is an exceptional individual who has
demonstrated her endless passion to make life better, whether it be for
a child, veteran, or anyone in the community; her theme this year as
President is, "She is Woman, She is Strong, She is a Veteran," and her
project is the Women Veterans Programs at the Bath VAMC; and

WHEREAS, Candace and Bill Clemens are clearly selfless individuals
who give of their time, talent, and treasure to their community; they
have given scholarships in the past in memory of their son, Shawn, and
each year, Candace places a rose on the graves of all the veterans in
their local cemetery; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize and honor those citizens of this great Empire State who work

so assiduously for the betterment of their communities; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Candace Clemens for her outstanding community service by the
AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary No. 726, Jamestown, New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Candace Clemens.
