Senate Resolution No. 1791

COMMENDING Joseph P. Wolf upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the St.
Joseph's Collegiate Institute in Kenmore, New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the renowned educators and athletic coaches who serve the youth of this
great Empire State and who have distinguished themselves and their
schools through outstanding commitment and exemplary athletic
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commending Joseph P. Wolf upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in Kenmore,
New York, to be celebrated on Friday, April 28, 2017; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, Joseph P.
Wolf went on to Niagara University where he received his degree in 1962;
he furthered his education by earning his master's degree in education
from Canisius College in 1967; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation from Niagara University, Joseph P. Wolf
began a lifetime of service to his high school alma mater; throughout
his career, he taught history, business law and physical education,
along with coaching both baseball and junior varsity football; and
WHEREAS, Upon being named Athletics Director in 1966, Joseph P. Wolf
led St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute's varsity baseball teams to win
more than 130 games and two Georgetown Cups; in addition, his football
teams were 97-7-4 and recorded eight undefeated seasons; and
WHEREAS, Although widely recognized and honored as a fine coach and
superb administrator, Joseph P. Wolf was considered by many to be an
outstanding teacher; and
WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
students, Joseph P. Wolf was named the 1981 Knights of Columbus Man of
the Year, 1986 Alumni Association Man of the Year, 1996 Athletics Hall
of Fame Inductee and 1999 Distinguished Alumni Signum Fidei Society; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Joseph P. Wolf was selected as the New York State
Catholic High School Athletics Director of the Year, and was the
recipient of the prestigious John D. Burns Award for outstanding support
and dedication to high school football; and
WHEREAS, Enshrined in the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame, Joseph P.
Wolf was honored for his accomplishments, leadership and service by the
Town of Tonawanda Board of Directors on June 16, 2008; and
WHEREAS, A congenial leader and seasoned tactician, Joseph P. Wolf's
positive demeanor, selfless commitment and caring concern have
contributed to his unparalleled success as a coach and mentor, earning
him the just respect and admiration of the school, his peers and the
athletes he has so ably coached; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to now record its
recognition and appreciation in honoring an outstanding educational
leader whose dedication and achievements have been instrumental in
developing character and sportsmanship in youth, exemplifying the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joseph P. Wolf upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in Kenmore, New
York; recognizing as well, the significance of his long and
distinguished career as a teacher, coach and mentor in serving both the
youth in his community and the student athletes of St. Joseph's
Collegiate Institute; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joseph P. Wolf.
