Senate Resolution No. 1832

COMMENDING Eddie Rodriguez upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by Local 372
NYC Board of Education Employees on May 3, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of worthy purpose whose endeavors
have enhanced the quality of education in the great City and State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Eddie Rodriguez upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by Local 372 NYC Board of Education Employees at its Annual
Scholarship Dinner Dance on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, aboard the
Hornblower Infinity Yacht; and
WHEREAS, Eddie Rodriguez is currently the President of New York City
Clerical-Administrative Employees Local 1549, a title he has held since
2001; and
WHEREAS, Since May of 2011, Eddie Rodriguez has also served as
President of District Council 37, AFSCME, and from 2003-2016, he held
the title of International Vice-President of AFSCME; and
WHEREAS, At the young age of 19, Eddie Rodriguez began his civil
service career as a clerk with the Department of Social Services;
shortly thereafter, he was promoted to the position of Income
Maintenance Specialist; and
WHEREAS, Eddie Rodriguez started his labor career as a Shop Steward
at Dyckman Center in 1976; he quickly rose through the ranks of Local
1549, first serving as Chair of the Department of Social Services
Chapter, then as 1549 Delegate to District Council 37, Sergeant-at-Arms,
5th Vice President of Local 1549, and finally, in 2001, was elected as
President of Local 1549; and
WHEREAS, In his tenure as Local 1549 President, Eddie Rodriguez has
worked tirelessly to advance the rights and improve the conditions of
his members, pushing for civilianization at the NYPD, fighting on behalf
of 911 workers enduring excessive overtime and addressing unfair work
rules and labor practices for all Local 1549 members; and
WHEREAS, Proud of his heritage, Eddie Rodriguez advocated for and
created the DC 37 Latino Heritage Committee which celebrates Latino
history and the accomplishments of Latino communities; in addition, he
served as the co-Chair of the DC37 Latino Heritage Committee, and was
the Vice President of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement;
and
WHEREAS, As President of District Council 37, Eddie Rodriguez
presides over Delegates Meetings and Executive Board Meetings; he also
works closely with District Council 37's Executive Director and all DC37
Local Presidents and is proud to fight hard on behalf of all DC37
members; and
WHEREAS, The success of the City and State of New York, and of our
nation, depends on organizations such as Local 372 and its members who
have dedicated their lives to nurturing our most precious resource, our
children; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Eddie Rodriguez upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by Local 372 NYC Board of Education Employees on May 3,
2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Eddie Rodriguez.
