COMMEMORATING the dedication of a section in
Bedford-Stuyvesant between Throop and Marcus Garvey,
to be co-named as Tohma Y. Faulkner Way in her honor
on May 6, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
dedication of a section in Bedford-Stuyvesant between Throop and Marcus
Garvey, to be co-named as Tohma Y. Faulkner Way in her honor at a brief
ceremony on Saturday, May 6, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Tohma Y. Faulkner, of Brooklyn, New York, died on September
6, 2008; and

WHEREAS, One of the founders of Bed-Stuy Alive!, Tohma Y. Faulkner
was a tireless advocate for affordable housing, excellence in education,
robust economic development and increased youth services as well as
strong civic engagement; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Tohma Y. Faulkner was an
integral member of the Community Board 3, Vannguard Urban Improvement
Association, Bedford-Stuyvesant Gateway Business Improvement District,
Weeksville Heritage Center, the Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant,
Inc., and the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Inc.; and

WHEREAS, A dedicated, persistent, smart and hard-working individual,
Tohma Y. Faulkner is truly missed by the entire community of
Bedford-Stuyvesant; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality
of life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by
individuals of remarkable integrity and character whose civic endeavors
have improved the lives of others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the dedication of a section in Bedford-Stuyvesant between
Throop and Marcus Garvey, to be co-named as Tohma Y. Faulkner Way in her
honor on May 6, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Tohma Y. Faulkner.
