HONORING Wayne Shattes upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the John T. Mather
Founder's Award by the Golf Classic Committee on
June 5, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality of life in the communities across this great State of New
York is enriched by the diligence and compassionate commitment of those
individuals whose singular purpose is the care and welfare of others;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Wayne Shattes upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
John T. Mather Founder's Award by the Golf Classic Committee to be
celebrated at its 32nd Annual Mather Golf Classic on Monday, June 5,
2017, at the Port Jefferson Country Club in Port Jefferson, New York;
and

WHEREAS, Wayne Shattes is receiving this prestigious award for his
steadfast and unremitting commitment to the John T. Mather Memorial
Hospital; and

WHEREAS, This popular annual event helps to raise funds for the
Nursing Education Program at the John T. Mather Memorial Hospital;
better education ensures patients receive the high quality,
cost-effective services they deserve and the health of its community
continues to improve; and

WHEREAS, The Nursing Education Program offers ongoing updates and
training in clinical practice areas whereby, increasing nurses' skill
levels and providing its patients with the best care possible; the John
T. Mather Memorial Hospital has earned the prestigious Magnet
designation which recognizes healthcare organizations for quality
patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing
practices; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Shattes earned his Bachelor of Science degree in
Biology from the State University of New York at Geneseo; he received a
Master of Hospital Administration degree from Washington University in
St. Louis, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Shattes began his long and distinguished career in
medical administration as the Assistant Vice President and
Administrative Resident of the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville,
Florida; and

WHEREAS, In 1986, Wayne Shattes joined the John T. Mather Memorial
Hospital holding the title of Vice President; in this capacity, he works
with a variety of clinical, support and ancillary departments to ensure
seamless operations throughout the Hospital and improve both quality and
safety; he is truly committed to providing exceptional patient care and
superior service; and


WHEREAS, Dedicated to his profession, Wayne Shattes is a Fellow of
the American College of Health Care Executives, and was a member of the
adjunct faculty at St. Joseph's College, in Patchogue, New York, where
he taught healthcare finance; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the Hospital, Wayne Shattes is
a participant of the Port Jefferson Rotary, and serves on the Board of
Directors of Jefferson's Ferry, a retirement community; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Shattes' ongoing efforts and notable achievements
have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of life in his
community; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, he continuously displayed initiative
and an unrelenting commitment when pursuing the highest of goals, and he
has served as a role model of leadership to be emulated by all; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Wayne Shattes upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the John T. Mather Founder's Award by the Golf Classic Committee; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Wayne Shattes.
