HONORING Ernest Matthews upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Volunteer of the
Year Award by Gliding Stars of Western New York

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ernest
Matthews upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Volunteer of the Year Award by Gliding Stars of Western New York, to be
celebrated at its Annual Luncheon on Sunday, May 7, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1994, Gliding Stars is an adaptive ice skating
program for individuals with disabilities headquartered in Buffalo, New
York; currently, it is composed of seven chapters in four states and
continues to grow; and

WHEREAS, For his dedication and service to Gliding Stars of Western
New York, Ernest Matthews, a resident of Orchard Park, will be receiving
a Volunteer of the Year Award honoring him for his commitment to the
organization; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Ernest Matthews has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Ernest Matthews has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ernest Matthews upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Volunteer of the Year Award by Gliding Stars of Western New York;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ernest Matthews.
