COMMENDING the Huntington Hospital Auxiliary upon
the occasion of celebrating its 100th Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations within the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Huntington Hospital Auxiliary upon the occasion of its 100th
Anniversary to celebrated at a reception on Sunday, May 28, 2017; and
WHEREAS, In 1917, 130 local women formed a Woman's Auxiliary at
Huntington Hospital, performing many seemingly small tasks designed to
lighten the load for the hospital staff; over time, the name of the
organization was changed to Volunteer Services, men and students joined
the roster, and services have been expanded; however, the sense of
dedication and purpose has remained the same; and
WHEREAS, Today, volunteers provide support and comfort to patients
and family members in numerous areas within the hospital such as
Information Desk, Concierge Services, Patient Transporter, Emergency
Department Ambassadors, Surgical Liaison, various Nursing Units, Dolan
Family Health Center, Food and Nutrition, Pharmacy, Gift Shop, and Mail
Service, as well as the Thrift Shop; and
WHEREAS, In addition, these vital caregivers greet patients with a
warm smile and assist them when they are discharged from the hospital;
and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the hardworking members of the
Huntington Hospital Auxiliary have raised more than seven million
dollars for various programs and services which allow the hospital to
continue to provide exemplary and compassionate care to its patients;
and
WHEREAS, The success of the Huntington Hospital Auxiliary is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the Auxiliary and the population it serves;
and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Huntington Hospital Auxiliary upon the occasion of
celebrating its 100th Anniversary on May 28, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Huntington Hospital Auxiliary.
