COMMENDING Staff Inspector Donald M. Faughnan upon
the occasion of his retirement after more than 34
years of dedicated service to the New York State
Police
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, The quality of life in these communities is largely
reflective of the commitment and dedication demonstrated by members of
the agencies which serve to protect, preserve and maintain public order;
and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Staff
Inspector Donald M. Faughnan upon the occasion of his retirement after
more than 34 years of dedicated service to the New York State Police;
and
WHEREAS, Donald M. Faughnan earned his Bachelor's degree from the
State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego and later, received his
Master's degree from Binghamton University in 1986; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable public servant began his esteemed career in
law enforcement in 1978, as a Campus Police Officer with the Binghamton
University Police Department; in October of 1982, he joined the New York
State Police where he held numerous ranks throughout the years; and
WHEREAS, Donald M. Faughnan began his long career with the New York
State Police as a Trooper in Owego, New York; from there he switched
gears and held the position of Technical Sergeant at the New York State
Police Academy; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Donald M. Faughnan became a Line Sergeant, and
then a Station Commander with the New York State Police in
Margaretville, New York; from June of 1989 until October of 1995, he
held the title of Zone Sergeant at the New York State Police Barracks in
Oneonta, New York; and
WHEREAS, For the next few years, Donald M. Faughnan was a Lieutenant
for the Southern Tier Crime Laboratory and then held the same rank with
the Division in Sidney, New York; and
WHEREAS, In May of 2004, Lieutenant Donald M. Faughnan was promoted
to the position of Captain of the New York State Police in Syracuse, New
York, and was then transferred back to the Sidney location; and
WHEREAS, From April of 2009 until September of 2013, Donald M.
Faughnan held the post of Major of the Forensic Investigation Center,
and then served as Major of Troop C for the next two years; and
WHEREAS, At the end of his remarkable career, Donald M. Faughnan was
selected as the Staff Inspector for Internal Affairs in Syracuse, a
position from which he will officially retire at the end of 2016; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his 34 year career, he has been held in the
highest regard and respected by his colleagues in the State Police as
well as other law enforcement agencies across the great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Julie and his three
sons, Donnie, Patrick and Gregory, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, More important than any professional accomplishments,
Donald M. Faughnan always put his family first; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Staff Inspector Donald M. Faughnan upon the occasion of his
retirement after more than 34 years of dedicated service to the New York
State Police, and to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Staff Inspector Donald M. Faughnan.
