COMMEMORATING the 20th Anniversary of Capital
Region Sponsor-A-Scholar on June 7, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to organizations of high purpose and worthy accomplishment
whose endeavors have a significant impact on the lives of others and the
community they serve; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
20th Anniversary of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar to be feted at its
2017 Scholar Celebration and Gala on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the
Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Geraldine Golub will be honored with the
prestigious 2017 Founders' Award which recognizes the contributions of a
person or organization who works to support promising youth in New
York's Capital Region, and advance the vision of Sponsor-A-Scholar's
founders who deeply believed in providing motivated young people with
the investment of both time and financial support so that they might
follow a path that is presently beyond his or her reach, and complete
high school and college; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine Golub is a longtime board member, and supporter
of Sponsor-A-Scholar, graciously sponsoring four scholars, and mentoring
two students with her husband; and
WHEREAS, For 20 years, Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar has strived
to provide local students with the resources, inspiration and mentoring
to succeed in high school and college; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar has
assisted more than 220 local students earn their college degrees; this
year, more than 20 motivated young people will earn their college
degrees, and in the fall of 2017, 29 scholars will embark on their
college journeys; and
WHEREAS, The success of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its Executive Director, Robin
Christenson, and staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the institution and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar on
June 7, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Robin Christenson, Executive Director, Capital Region
Sponsor-A-Scholar.
