COMMENDING The Addictions Care Center of Albany,
Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 5th Annual
Healing Hearts Breakfast on May 10, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend The Addictions Care Center of Albany, Inc. upon the occasion of
hosting its 5th Annual Healing Hearts Breakfast on Wednesday, May 10,
2017, at Normanside Country Club, in Delmar, New York; and

WHEREAS, Since 1967, The Addictions Care Center of Albany, Inc.
(ACCA) has been strengthening the lives and improving the futures of
thousands of individuals in its community; through intensive, proactive
programs customized to individual needs, ACCA touches the lives of more
than 10,000 people throughout the Capital Region each year; and

WHEREAS, Through its core values of respect, compassion, diversity,
integrity and excellence, ACCA empowers individuals, families and
communities to advance beyond addiction and overcome barriers to healing
through an array of quality, compassionate care and prevention programs;
and

WHEREAS, Alcohol and drug addiction is called a family disease
because addiction negatively impacts the stability of the home, the
family's unity, mental health, physical health and social network; there
is typically more divorce, domestic violence, child abuse, depression,
anxiety, and general medical problems in families dealing with
addiction; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the ACCA continuum of care, the needs of the
family are foremost; staff teaches youth the proactive skills and the
knowledge to avoid drug and alcohol abuse and other risky behaviors, and
family education programming extends prevention into the community; and

WHEREAS, Family therapy is an integral component in all ACCA
treatment modalities and critical to the sustained recovery of both the
individual client and their family; in 2011, ACCA opened Vista House, a
22-bed Women and Children's Transitional Living residence where women
are able to prepare for the next phase of their life in recovery in a
safe, healthy environment while keeping their families intact; in 2017,
this vital organization plans on opening a halfway house for women and
children in the beginning stages of recovery on the main campus; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Executive Director Keith
W. Stack, ACCA respects each individual's unique journey through
recovery and believes the disease of addiction is both preventable and
treatable; for 50 years, ACCA has strived to heal the hearts of everyone

touched by addiction and provide the gift of sustained recovery to the
individuals and families it serves throughout Albany County and the
Capital Region; and

WHEREAS, The success of ACCA is in direct correlation to the efforts
of its staff, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized
by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an
uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the
institution and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Addictions Care Center of Albany, Inc. upon the occasion of
hosting its 5th Annual Healing Hearts Breakfast on May 10, 2017; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Keith W. Stack, Executive Director, The Addictions Care
Center of Albany, Inc.
