COMMENDING Furnace Woods Elementary School upon
the occasion of celebrating its 50th Anniversary

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
significant milestones in the distinguished histories of its esteemed
entities; and

WHEREAS, Furnace Woods Elementary School will celebrate its 50th
Anniversary on May 12, 2017; and

WHEREAS, During the celebration, a commemorative tile mural will be
unveiled; the mural consists of tiles created by the students depicting
their favorite school subject or activity; and

WHEREAS, Furnace Woods Elementary School was built in 1965 and
opened for its first class of students in September of 1966; and

WHEREAS, Furnace Woods Elementary School is one of three elementary
schools in the Hendrick Hudson School District; there are 250 students
in the school; and

WHEREAS, To commemorate this milestone anniversary, students have
been participating in Acts of Kindness each month during the school
year; and

WHEREAS, Acts of Kindness included Compliment Buckets in September,
Run Against Hunger in October, pajama donation in November, providing
holiday treats to the Peekskill Soup Kitchen in December, Valentine's
Day cards for veterans in January, random acts of kindness in February,
animal shelter donations in March, Relay for Life in April, school
grounds beautification in May, and School Community Day in June; and

WHEREAS, Furnace Woods Elementary School has a long and
distinguished history of exceptional academics and extracurricular
activities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Furnace Woods Elementary School upon the occasion of celebrating
its 50th Anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Cindy Kramer, Principal, Furnace Woods Elementary
School.
