HONORING Anne Cannon upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Mother of Pearl
Award by the Frank Chapman Memorial Institute, Inc.
on May 13, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Anne Cannon upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Mother of Pearl Award by the Frank Chapman Memorial Institute, Inc. to
be celebrated at its 9th Annual Extravaganza on Saturday, May 13, 2017,
at the Albany Ramada Plaza Hotel in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Anne (Johns) Cannon is a native of Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania; for many years, she lived in Troy, New York, and is now a
resident of Menands, New York; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from the Troy City School District, Anne
Cannon was employed by the New York State Education Department and other
county and private agencies; in 1995, she retired from the New York
State Court of Appeals; she then worked part-time for the New York State
Supreme Court Library in Troy, a position from which she retired in
2001; and
WHEREAS, Anne Cannon has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, For over 65 years, Anne Cannon has been a faithful member
of the Bethel Baptist Church in Troy; she is a participant in the
Rudolph V. Stinney Choir, the Women's Choir Koinonia, and gladly sings
solos whenever she is needed; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Anne Cannon serves in the Susie Lambert
Missionary Ministry, and Sunday School, and participates in Kindred
Spirits United, a senior community-based organization which visits and
sings for residents of local nursing homes; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Anne Cannon has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her three children, Benjamin
Cannon, Jr., Cynthia and Brian; her six grandchildren, and one
great-grandchild, all of whom have shown her love and support and
rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anne Cannon upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Mother of Pearl Award by the Frank Chapman Memorial Institute, Inc.
on May 13, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anne Cannon.
