HONORING Monica Kasongo Muamba upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Mother of
Pearl Award by the Frank Chapman Memorial Institute,
Inc. on May 13, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those nurses from this great Empire State who have
distinguished themselves through professional excellence and have made
significant contributions to the quality of life of its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Monica Kasongo Muamba upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Mother of Pearl Award by the Frank Chapman Memorial Institute,
Inc. to be celebrated at its 9th Annual Extravaganza on Saturday, May
13, 2017, at the Albany Ramada Plaza Hotel in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Monica Kasongo Muamba currently works at Albany Medical
Center as a Nurse Education Specialist; she truly enjoys teaching newly
hired Registered Nurses how to be excellent caregivers; and
WHEREAS, Using her own curriculum, Monica Kasongo Muamba instructs
nurses on important topics such as clinical judgment, patient teaching,
culture diversity, Electrocardiogram, and much more; in addition to her
role at Albany Medical Center, she serves as an adjunct professor at
Maria College, where she utilizes her experience as a nurse and educator
to prepare students for the world of nursing; and
WHEREAS, Monica Kasongo Muamba became a fashion entrepreneur to help
others experience the beauty within themselves, improve confidence and
open up opportunities in their lives; her company, MKas Lika helps women
come out of their shells with unique, captivating and affordable style;
and
WHEREAS, In 2005, Monica Kasongo Muamba and two of her friends
founded Sister to Sister's Keeper, Corporation, (S2SK) a non-profit
organization; today, S2SK holds empowerment conferences for women and
girls, bible studies, and provides a college scholarship for one
first-year college student; this vital organization strives to give
women and girls the opportunity to reshape their perception of
themselves and learn how to use their power to achieve the greatest
version of themselves; and
WHEREAS, This compassionate and dynamic woman also serves as an
International Transformational Speaker, helping people to change their
lives through presentations on topics such as Nursing: One Profession
with Millions Careers, and Pivot Yourself, Explore Your Thinking: Turn
Obstacles into Opportunities; and
WHEREAS, For her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her
profession, women, and her community, Monica Kasango Muamba has been the
recipient of numerous awards and accolades including the 2012 Salute To
Excellence Award by Alpha Kappa Sorority Inc.; she has been featured in
Healthy Life Magazine, Minority Nurse Magazine, and Adanagow Magazine,
where she also wrote an article entitled "Women of Character"; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Monica Kasango Muamba was named the 2014-2015 VIP
Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women; and
WHEREAS, Built upon the proud tradition of caring, the profession of
nursing is dedicated to implementing the best practices to deliver the
highest quality of care to those whom they serve; and
WHEREAS, These exceptional individuals, leaders in their profession,
make a difference in the lives of every one of their patients, as well
as the patients' family members they serve each and every day; they have
truly proven themselves to be great assets to the health and welfare of
the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, A woman of true integrity, Monica Kasongo Muamba has served
as a Registered Nurse with distinction, enthusiasm, dedication and
honor; for almost four decades, she has rendered faithful, conscientious
and valuable service to the Capital Region, earning the admiration,
esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Monica Kasongo Muamba upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Mother of Pearl Award by the Frank Chapman Memorial
Institute, Inc. on May 13, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Monica Kasongo Muamba.
