HONORING former Mayor Gerald D. Jennings upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Edwin Sperber Legacy Award by the Northeast Kidney
Foundation

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and
energies to the service of their community and profession, participating
in civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
former Mayor Gerald D. Jennings upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Edwin Sperber Legacy Award by the Northeast Kidney
Foundation, to be celebrated at its 2017 Gift of Life Celebration on
Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Capital Center in Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Northeast Kidney Foundation is a voluntary health
organization dedicated to preventing kidney disease and enhancing the
lives of all those affected; formed in 1974 as a philanthropic gift of
Edwin and Rhonda Sperber, the Foundation provides services to patients,
family members, the general public and clinical and academic
professionals throughout the Northeast; and

WHEREAS, The mission of the Northeast Kidney Foundation is to
improve the quality of life of those affected by kidney disease and
related conditions throughout early identification, intervention,
prevention and support services; to promote organ donation; and to
empower those it serves to be an effective voice for better healthcare
at the local, state and federal levels; and

WHEREAS, The former Mayor of the city of Albany, Gerald D. Jennings
increased homeownership, revitalized the communities of Delaware Avenue
and Pearl Street, and enhanced development in the city's South End; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and
community service, a period of constructive involvement, Gerald D.
Jennings has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which Gerald D. Jennings has
displayed throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor former Mayor Gerald D. Jennings upon the occasion of his

designation as recipient of the Edwin Sperber Legacy Award by the
Northeast Kidney Foundation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to former Mayor Gerald D. Jennings.
