COMMENDING the Eastern Kings County Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. upon the occasion
of celebrating its 10th Anniversary, April 28, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations within the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Eastern Kings County Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Inc. upon the occasion of celebrating its 10th Anniversary of
Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service to the Eastern portion of the County
of Kings; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is
the single largest predominately African-American, college educated
women's organization in the world, and is dedicated to providing
assistance and support through established programs in local
communities; and

WHEREAS, In the Fall of 2004, a handful of Delta women residing in
Brooklyn, New York, started a dialogue about expanding Delta's footprint
in areas of the eastern section of Kings County that were not being
served; and

WHEREAS, Their dream was realized when the East Kings County Alumnae
Chapter (EKC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., "The Crown Jewel of
Kings County," was chartered on April 28, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the chartering process over 20 Sorors were
reclaimed, and as a result EKC is now more than 80 Sorors strong and
growing; with the charter came a rededication to Delta, and a commitment
to extend and vitalize our public service, to provide assistance to the
needy, to promote cultural enrichment and to enhance the quality of life
for all residents of majestic East Kings County; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Eastern Kings County Chapter of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is in direct correlation to the efforts of
its members, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by
an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the sorority and
the population it serves; and

WHEREAS, In light of its commitment, dedication, and successful
efforts, it is the practice of this Legislative Body to extend its
highest commendation to the Eastern Kings County Chapter of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc.; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Eastern Kings County Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,

Inc. upon the occasion of celebrated its 10th Anniversary, April 28,
2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Eastern Kings County Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc.
